Formal Attire

  • Gloves
    • Length: Strapless dresses and dresses with spaghetti straps require gloves that are long and over the elbow
    • Color: The color of gloves is determined by the color of the dress
      • Cotton gloves dye well if you want to match your dress, and/or you may decorate your gloves with beads or sequins
      • White is always appropriate
      • Black gloves look good with black dresses, but you can also wear long white ones
  • Dress
    • Tea-length and floor-length dresses are permitted
      • Tea-length dresses are mid-calf and perfect for 6th grade girls
      • Floor-length is misleading as it actually stops just below the ankle
        • Make sure that the length of dress has the correct shoes to avoid it dragging on the floor
    • Cocktail dresses are not permitted
      • Cocktail is anything above the knee
    • Strapless gowns are not permitted
    • A slip is recommended to prevent see through material
  • Shoes
    • For a 6th grader, it can be a patent leather Mary Jane, a dress pump, or an open toe with a very small heal
      • Stocking or dressy socks are recommended
    • For everyone else, evening shoes
      • Evening shoes can be open toe and or open back
      • For insurance purposes, JMC requires that the heel has a strap
        • We strongly suggest that the heel height be moderate and not extremely high
    • Hose are recommended, but not required
    • Shawls are not recommended, but permitted

Parents will receive a notice if a student is dressed inappropriately, and the student may be sent home.
